2010 Miami, Eastern Caribbean Cruise

Oops, forgot to blog about my trip, anyway, it was good. We were on the Norwegian Epic, believed to be the second biggest ship and the newest ship in the world, as of today that is. We arrived at 7 or 8am in the morning in Miami, and had about 4 hrs to kill. So we cabbed downtown and started walking towards the port with our luggages. It wasn't a very long walk, much shorter than I expected. We then sailed off to St. Marrten where we experienced the planes landing just off the top of your head as well as getting blasted in the face by the 747 jet engine. Next we moved on to St. Thomas where we enjoyed Magen's Bay for a few hours. We were pretty lucky as the locals said they had no tourists visiting for 7 days because of a storm that we just missed. Next, the Bahamas, where we spent 6 hrs at the Paradise Island, aka Atlantis Resort. We were kind of in a rush but I think we saw enough of it. Then we sailed back to Miami, and we spent an extra day at South Beach. Done. :D Next destination, perhaps Maldives?

Seattle's Crab Pot

After all these years of knowing Crab Pot restaurant, I have finally got to eat there... It gets pretty messy and ugly though, but eating with fingers felt good for some reason. The crabs were awesome, oysters/clams weren't so great, fish was lacking some taste, but okay, potatoes, sausages and corns were pretty good. My advice is just get the crabs, skip the oysters... :D

This girl I know from high-school wrote me a msg on fb out of nowhere, telling me to stop hacking into hers and her friends fb accounts, and wants her privacy back. This isn't the first time either, last time happened about 1.5 months ago.

She apparently thinks that I work for fb, and even insisted that she has a good memory cuz I have told her so before. The fact is, I have never, and will never work for fb. How about checking my fuckn resume in profile first or ask around, we have tons of common friends from high-school, some are even still my co-workers. Even if I wanted to hack someone, why would I pick someone that I haven't seen/talked to since high-school, that's 16 yrs ago? It just don't make no sense. So I figured she obviously is either on drugs, needs to see a psychiatrist, or just fuckn stupid.

Anyway, I got fed up of her asking for her privacy back when I don't have a fuckn clue what the hell she is talking about, so I ended up telling her to fuck off and stop harassing me instead, hahaha. Oh ya, if you are also experiencing the thing, let me know... It would be interesting to know how many ppl she is trying to brainwash. Okay off to Mexico in 24 hrs...

Olympic Withdrawal

Although I didn't get to go to any real Olympic event, I did participated and enjoyed some of the Olympic festivities around town. We didn't finish first as I expected, I never thought we would, but we did get a lot of Gold and finished first in that category. 14 Golds, that's 4 more than 2nd place Germany at 10.

Anyway, after 17 days of dramatic highs, tearful lows, it came to abrupt end on Sunday. I don't think we could've written a better script than winning the Gold medal in Men's Ice Hockey vs USA in Overtime. It was freaking awesome!

Anyway, I have finished the Olympic album too, finally. I am working on a video, stay tuned.

Chris Rudge, the chief executive of the Canadian Olympic Committee, conceded Monday morning that Canadian athletes will not meet the COC's goal of finishing first in the medal standings at the Winter Olympic Games.

I have been to Vancouver for about 20 years and I have never done new year's countdown in downtown, neither did Susan. Since our clubbing plans fell through, we decided to countdown ourselves there for the first time. We took skytrain and got there in a hurry right after the dinner with my friends at Q4, and to our surprise, it wasn't packed at all, there were people gathering around, but it wasn't packed or anything, not what I had imagined. I thought it was the weather, cuz it was sort of raining, just a little bit, not enough to use my umbrella though. We walked down Granville for 15 min to check out some of the clubs there, but suddenly, on our way back to Robson, it got crowded quickly! People started to gather around Granville and Robson. It finally got really packed about 5-10 minutes before the countdown to 2010. Anyway, I didn't bother bringing my dSLR, so this is all I got, Happy New Year... :D

This year, I realized I have never really had a Christmas with a 'real' girlfriend (by that I meant, most of you may already know that my previous relationships all ended in long distance, for some weird strange reason, so we never got to spend time together during the Holidays) until this year. It was hectic, lots of dinners with families and friends, especially my sister was also visiting from Singapore, but it felt nice, warm, with lots of love. :D

Finally found some time to help my sis with her lookbook photos. I was kind of rushing her as I was side tracked with something else, so I didn't spend as much time setting up the environment. So what ended up happening was that I had to photoshop all the nasty stuff in the background. There were power outlets, nails, wires, on/off switches, heater control, and stains from picture frames, etc... But it turned out okay... right? Sigh, a nice studio would've helped. Busy Weekend

It was a hectic weekend, started off with the Ensemble Xmas party, two birthday dinners, two birthday parties, one get together and lastly, a dimsum lunch. Those optical slaves didn't work at all for the 2nd and 3rd flashes I wanted to use, prob cuz it was still too bright outside, so I ended up using only 1 flash with the umbrella.

Woohoo~ I finally went to Las Vegas...! I have always wanted to go with someone special, and I waited and waited and waited, almost 10 years I waited...

Ironically, it's like Susan's 11th time or something, 3rd time this year alone... ridiculous... haha... probably not so special for her...

Many times I had the chance to go but I decided I will wait a little longer for that someone special, so I always found excuses not to go. I finally gave up waiting and almost went with my pals for xmas last year, but that didn't go through because one of us couldn't get off work in time...

Anyway, it was worth the wait, not to mention I was there on my Birthday... :D

I didn't really take my time taking pictures, I didn't want to make Susan wait too long so I took pics as fast I could as we walked everywhere. Oh well, maybe next time...

Pre-Birthday Surprise

So, we are about to go to Vegas tomorrow for the first time (for me, and like 11th time for Susan), and I've been looking around for a nice bag to carry around for short trips and stuff...

Ever since Vince introduced me to Filson earlier this year when I was flying a lot for business trips, I've been eyeing one but never really had a good enough of an excuse to actually buy it... Well, cuz, I haven't traveled at all since then.

Anyway, I woke up late today because I think I was getting sick so I chugged down some Neo Citron last night. This morning, Susan was unusually hyper sending me text messages while I was on my way to work.

I walked into the office and found a big ass box on my chair, wrapped in Christmas gift wrapping paper which I thought looked familiar for some reason (I found out later that she actually stole my wrapping paper from my room). Just as I was about to open to see what and who it is from, Susan called trying to see what my reaction was. She thought my reaction was dull and clam, not knowing I have not opened the gift, yet. I didn't want to give my reaction away not knowing for sure she sent me the gift, it would be awkward if it was from someone other girl now wouldn't it, hahah...

Anyway, I figured it was from Susan and then finally opened it... And there it is... The bag I've been wanting for several months... Thanks BEE~... Now I can close Filson's website that I have been staring at for awhile... :D

We haven't had a good brunch for awhile because we had a hard time waking up 'early' and get ready for it in time, most places stops serving brunch around 2~3pm. Finally, we found a place that serves brunch til 5pm! And even better, we had coupons for it, heh...

I wanted to check out some shops in Gastown so we walked around for a few hours there, and took some pictures. They were shooting some movie right in front of the new convention centre. Supposedly, a maniac runs out of the building and started firing guns at a Mercedes C class fish-tailing out of the intersection, of course a couple of cars crashing at the intersection. It was suppose to take place in Europe, so all the street signs were changed into European street signs, as well as fake European cop cars and fake European cops. It was pretty cool watching the setup for the shot and what was involved in a movie shoot. Pretty neat! And a lot of paparazzi with big ass lens there as well, we couldn't telll who was the main actor/actress in the scene though, probably somone not very well known.

I did a photoshoot for Susan's good friend, Tony, today. He is trying to sell his Mini Cooper S soon and wanted me to take pics for him so he can post it along with his ad. The weather was really nice which helped... While I was shooting, I was asked to leave the private property by some security guard though. I apparently was blocking the parking lot, even though there were clearly no cars around on a sunny Saturday afternoon, oh well... He was just doing his job I guess. :D

Weather was wicked, it was a bit cold but hey, I can't complain, it's almost October... It was probably the last sunny weekend of the summer anyway. We had a nice dinner at Brock House Friday night, hung out with the boys at Cascade, cleaned my room/bathroom on Saturday, got rid of almost 4 bags of clothes I don't wear anymore, etc... Walked around on Sunday, had some fish & chips at Granville island and went to Justin's surprise dinner later at night.

Ummm, been eating out lots, tummy feels like its bigger, yet I am able to keep those pounds off, I don't know how I do it, but I hope I can keep up... :P Anyway, was planning to go to White Rock for pictures, but we ended up at Pt. Roberts since its closer and we had a tight schedule that day. It's a pretty neat little place actually. The customs officer at the border gave me a funny look when I told him we were going to sightseeing, and said "Sightseeing???", heh... Well, I guess there isn't much to see at Pt. Roberts... I wouldn't mind going back again when weather is actually nice cuz we had to leave when it started raining.

20090912 Garibaldi and Sunday Stroll

I finally went to Garibaldi...! I've been wanting to go and take pictures there since I got my camera last year. Been planning to go with Susan this summer, but kept on procrastinating. Finally decided to actually do it this past weekend. I originally thought it was a 3 hrs "walk" to the Garibaldi, which is what I told Susan, but after we spent 2 hrs driving up there and few steps into the trail, I realized it's gonna be a 4.5 hrs "hike". I thought we were pretty good though, we made it in just 3.5 hrs going there and a little more than 2 hrs coming back. It's approx 9 km in distance and 1 km in elevation, one way. Susan was a good sport, she helped me carry my empty camera bag for about 3 kms before she gave up and gave it back to me. I ended up carrying a tripod with some other junk in it, my big ass camera and the camera bag with some gears in it. It's really tough carrying all that stuff for 6 hrs... I did it, and my shoulders were hurting the next day, more than my legs, heh...
The lake is beautiful, it was really blue/turquoise as I expected. It was really rewarding, we pretty much forgot how tired we were after we got there. We spent about 2 hrs there by the water and finally left around 5pm or so... I will definitely go back again, maybe try camping there next time...

I finally got to do a 'paid' wedding a year after I got my camera. It went well, it started rough due to the rain, lighting was challenging but it was good learning experience. I need to improve on talking more for more formal shots, but then I don't know, I still prefer shooting candids where I get to pick the angles and shots I want without disturbing people. I need to get a 70-200mm soon I think. Also, thanks to Peter, my partner that day who make it all happen, he is really great at working with people. I couldn't have done this without him. Total bill came to approx. $240, check out the data/text portion of the bill. Well, I knew this was coming, so, wasn't a surprise to me, I just wanted to share with y'all... What happened was I was in NY for 9 days, and so any text message I send AND receive when I was in NY will be charged with roaming, on top of that, I was sending international text messages to my girl in Taiwan since she was visiting during that time. Anyway, thank god we are both back in Vancouver now. :)

Evening Stroll - White Rock

Since I usually have nothing planned on Tuesday, I thought it would be nice to go for a stroll in White Rock, and take photos of Daren and his uncooperative Auntie. It was a bit challenging, but once I got used to it, it was pretty easy, just let the camera focus on its own and set it on high speed. I don't think I would be able to get so many usable/focused shots of Darren if I was using another camera. On another note, I have noticed that most of my photos angle one way... Damn it, I need to try more different angles!!!

Last day of May

Finally, after a long freakn winter, weather's been mad nice lately, it was a perfect time for a walk along the beach and just relax and take photos. I don't remember the last time I sat there and do nothing for no reason but just enjoying the sunshine and spending time with someone that makes me smile, a lot. It was fun... Especially coming back from New York, it made me realize how much better Vancouver is. Hah... And... I don't like Italians (no offense, inside joke).

Oscar and Me

Just purchased 2 light stands, 1 reflector arm/stand, 1 flash, and some other flash accessories. I did a whole bunch of test shots trying all different variations of lighting setups last night and finally got a decent shot. Lighting is fun, but not easy...

He doesn't look like he enjoyed my kiss, but more looking forward to eat the cookie that I placed on top of the lens to make him look straight into the camera. lol.

The last few days just blinked by, it went so fast that I did not have time to process my photos and post them here online, but I am working on it and should have everything up in couple of days.

Anyway, so ya, the trip was great, met some interesting people that made the trip more memorable, and of course, Lan and Ackram were gracious host. They were both very busy with work, yet they took time off to show us around and stuff...

I didn't take any pics yesterday cuz we went to some museum thinking I couldn't take photos and then at night we went to see Lion King which definitely was not allowed, so I didn't bother bring my camera with me. However I made up by taking lots of pics today. And as Claire requested, I took more pics of us. :) We went shopping near Madison Square Garden including BH Photo, that place is insane!!!

On day 3, Calvin and I went to two places, American Museum of Natural History and Times Square. The museum was "so so", although I enjoyed the dinosaurs. Times Square was fun, lots of color and people. Album updated.

Let's see, we arrived around 8:00am at Lillian's apartment, Lillian was super happy to see us. We walked around 5th Ave, saw lots of expensive stores: LV, Gucci, Tiffany's (4 floors!), A&F (Multiple floors as well), and many other stores. I was pretty impressed... We went to central park after and I felt in love with it right away, it's a really nice park... Anyway, added pics to the album - 20090516 New York.

I have never thought flying could be so comfortable, until Jim upgraded our seats to business class, it was sooooo comfy!!! I don't want to go back to economy class anymore... Damn...~~~

Arrived at 6:30am and finally met up with Lillian around 8:00am, she was really happy to see us.

Probably going to the Mac store and Central Park today, not sure yet though. Allergy is killing me... :(

NY trip is coming up, actually I will be leaving tomorrow night. But I am not feeling the excitement that I had when I first talked about it. I don't know why, I even have to keep reminding myself that the trip is coming up and don't forget to pack and GO... Is this normal? Or is it because my mind is somewhere else thinking about someone else?

I do know that once I am there I will be toting around my big ass camera for 9 days and take lots of pictures, can't wait to share with you all.

I never knew about this awe-insipiring speech by Steve Jobs until today when I was looking for something online. If you don't know who he is, look him up on Google. My favourite quotes from his speech.

Sometimes life hits you in the head with a brick. Don't lose faith. I'm convinced that the only thing that kept me going was that I loved what I did. You've got to find what you love. And that is as true for your work as it is for your lovers. Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. Ok, here is another one about trusting and following your heart.

Few weeks back, a co-worker hooked us up with Dyson deals, 50% of almost everything. As a recovering compulsive shopping disorder patient, of course I had to pick up a couple of them.

Finally got them today, all came in one shipment, as you can see, we bought quite a bit. But it saved me tons of $ though, so it's good right right right?

I didn't know about this blood donation clinic @ Microsoft until the day before, but I made up my mind rather quickly and booked my appointment. The last time I donated blood was in University days awhile back, so long ago that they don't have my record anymore, booo... So I was considered a first time donor to them. Anyway, after many pointless questions about sex, like I had any, I finished it in record fashion. I guess my heart and artery are nice and healthy.

Anyway, hopefully the blood I donated will give someone out there another chance at life and live happily ever after. Too bad this is not tax-deductible, but it makes you feel good.

HAHAAHAHA... Background: We usually stuff treats in a Kong toy and then tie it up inside the blue shirt that you see in the picture so that we can keep him occupied while we are not at home or leave him alone. What happened: So my sis went upstairs after stuffing the treats inside the shirt and left it in the sink, and after she came back down few moments later, she found him in the sink, lol!!!... I can't believe he actually climbed there himself, that's not an easy task...!!! Look at his guilty face tho... Priceless...!!!

In about a month I will be travelling to New York for 9 days, I need to start doing research on where to go, what to eat, where to shop, and what to see, etc...

Any ideas? Help me compile a list please, those that have been to New York or just knows a lot about New York.

I've always wantd to go to New York, so I am expecing an awesome trip. :P Or perhaps I should have a lower expectation, ummm...

I was wondering why I was declined at Safeway yesterday getting groceries. Turns out, I actually managed to max out my visa card, on the very first month of receiving the Infinite Avion Visa card. Good for my Avion points, bad for my bank account. Doh... Coincidentally, $9977.88 <-- meaningful digits, it perfectly described how I feel about the balance (you have to be Taiwanese to know what this means actually).

I was driving back from Downtown tonight via Granville bridge, and I saw this Mustang speeding up to merge, but for some reason, I felt like speeding so I sped up too. Just after I passed him, I see flashing red/blue lights in front of me, OOPS, ROAD CHECK... I slammed on my break hoping they didn't see me racing past the Mustang. Btw, I didn't have my seat belt on, as usual of course. While I slammed on the break, I was fumbling trying to put on the seat belt. But I didn't have enough time to put on the seat belt, so I ended up holding it with my thumb. LOL... The police officer ran to me as if he caught me speeding, I was thinking to myself "shit!!!". He asked where I was coming from, I said Downtown (duh), he asked where did you go, I said Dinner, and then he asked which restaurant did you go, I blanked out, cuz I really didn't know what the name of the restaurant was. He then asked how many I had to drink. But I didn't have any alcohol. He wasn't convinced, and asked, then why are your eyes red. I replied, cuz I am tired and they are itchy, probably due to the allergy. He then let me go. PHEWWW... That was a close call...

On a different note, Oscar was awesome at Granville Island today. :) I added more picture to his album.

This was one of the worst possible situation to be shooting photographs in. 1. I didn't want to use flash and annoyed the hell out of other people. 2. I did not have a tripod. 3. I can't really get close to the stage. 4. It's too freakn dark~

Anyway, I know, one day, I'll be showing off to my kids, relatives, coworkers, and strangers, and say, "Yup, that's my buddy Vince"...
